“Huckleberry Friends” (portrait of Nancy Boutelier & Her Father)
Pencil, pastel, and watercolor
2024 (NFS)
I first met my clever (and kind) friend, Nancy at the BreadLoaf School of English…..at Middlebury, in Vermont, when we were both about 25. Since then, we’ve kept in touch through writings, mutual friends, and photographs.
I could go on and on, but suffice it to say that she’s of those very rare folks I’ve known who, quite early on, displayed a genuine capacity for joy and, insofar as I can see, still does.
The title is, of course, taken from this song (sung here by a father/daughter). This will, equally of course, be a gift to Miss Nancy). And don’t they look alike? Go to (and don’t make Uncle David cry): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbbLBRE9RDc
