FOR SALE: “The Leeward Wind”
Pencil, Pastel, & Watercolor
2024 (SOLD)
Mountain-Bred&Born me has, as a VERY general rule, no use for the ocean or its environs, but I do love the marshes and coastal wetlands. They’re broad, of course, and beckoning (to me, at least, although I’ll never actually get on a boat larger than a canoe).
The Leeward side of any island (whether it be Ireland, Guernsey, or Hawaii) is that which is sheltered from the prevailing winds. It’s a useful term and metaphor.
Here’s the simple and extraordinarily lovely song (Which I learned in my twenties) which I listened to while painting/drawing this. I knew it long before I met half-Irish Herve and thought of it often when he was on his work-travels. go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSxPxNZP_30
