Brantome is a small village (about the size of an American football stadium) in Perigord, attached to a prominent abbey (hence the famous “les Memoirs de l’Abbaye de Brantome”. The town (which is surprisingly remote and more-than-usually difficult to reach, even by Perigordian standards) sits on an island at the confluence of two rivers and is often called “The Venice of Perigord” (there’s a fine distinction for you!). Herve and I go there every year after we’ve successfully completed the French in-laws tour-of-duty.
