This is, hands-down, My Favorite Picture I’ve ever done (and, consequently, highest on the list of “Who in the hell did I sell that to, and why did I sell it?”). In any case, it’s long gone….which is probably an appropriate situation, given the theme.
The title is also that of an old song from the mountains. It’s about foxhunting, a runaway slave, and an astonishingly mean old lady (all fine, time-honored themes of VA county life, of course).
One of my more perennial frustrations is that I recorded it ONCE, years ago on a cassette tape that I have to handle like the Shroud of Turin, for fear that it’ll just disintegrate completely one fine day. When’s the last time anyone saw a cassette-to-cassette recorder?…….
