“Reno” (for Eric Freid & Laure Levesque)
Reno belongs to the afore-celebrated Laure and Eric. He’s a Bernese Mountain Dog…….and, yes, enormous (certainly so by my standards).
I just spent an informative twenty minutes watching Youtube videos of/about these dogs. I gather from all the vintage photographs that the Swiss historically used these dogs the way that rural Spaniards use donkeys. Every other photograph showed a tiny, wizened, old woman, wrapped up in about twelve coats and followed by a Bernese, which in turn is happily pulling a cart piled high with firewood or enormous milk cans. Considering the matter, I can’t recall a single instance, over the past 25 years, of any of my terriers’ ever doing anything of the least practical help.
