“The Wind That Shakes the Barley”
(Boschaud Abbey; Villars)
pencil, pastel, & watercolor
2024
The ruined abbey of Boschaud is a bit inaccessible (I think one has to go through about six fields, a couple of pig-styes, and over five broken down fences to reach it); like many ruined Cistercian abbeys, it’s marooned in the middle of exactly nowhere). It is a beautiful spot, though. I once spent one of the loveliest afternoons of my life there.
I’ve panted the surrounding fields several times over the years.
The title is, of course, taken from a tragic old song. Go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDAKmhQGXMs
