I finished this about 2 hours ago, folded clothes, made further inquiries about a new puppy (Cairns and West Highlands are THREE TIMES, minimally, what they cost when I last bought one), talked on the telephone to my godmother’s 87 year-old sister (white, upper-class, pre-Duvalier-regime Haitian…..so she speaks a VERY oddly-antiquated French), came back to the drawing board…..and thought “That’s fine as it stands.”
I rarely think that, but I’m pleased with this one.
Tom Whiteside, a Hillsborough neighbor (google him….he’s a very fine and well-known film historian/photographer/curator/teacher at Duke) found these trees along the banks of the Eno. A Sweet Gum and a Beech. They’re both quite old and doing just fine (look in the comments for a photograph of them).
Many thanks to Tom, of course, and here’s the very lovely song I played on repeat as I drew/painted this today. I recommend it for everyone.
