“Tenant House; Indian Fields Farm; Smythe County, VA” Pencil, pastel, & watercolor. 2026.
This isn’t for sale, since I intend to give it as a gift to the man who bought the previous study….of the cattle-pond at Indian Fields.
He telephoned yesterday afternoon. Instead of the usual/dreary back&forth about paying by ZELLE vs. passenger pigeon, we ended up talking for almost two hours……about Reynolds Price’s novels, old houses in Caswell County, caring for loved ones with dementia, and all sorts of things.
I hung up, intensely realizing that it’s all too long since 66 year-old me made a new friend. So, I got up this morning and made this, to accompany the painting/drawing he’s already bought, and as a gesture of thanks.
The original painting was (is, somewhere, I suppose) very large and complex and expensive when it was in my 2010 “Traveler’s Rest” show.
