"A Safe Place" (Portrait of Morgan and Herve) The writings/thoughts/musings of  my friends (I'm surprised to find this the case) Dominique Browning (go to:  http://www.slowlovelife.com/) and  Heather Robinson (go to:  http://lostinarles.blogspot.com/) have been of great help to me lately, and those set me about doing this piece yesterday. Heather and Dominique are both smart ladies, to say the very least.

The portrait is of Herve and Morgan, during Morgan's first year and (I think) Herve's eighth....at least in my household). As usual these days, it's watercolor, architectural pencils, and pastels.....and very small. The "secret", by the way, is to rub it in with wads of toilet paper; don't use your greasy fingers...... The quite beautiful song (one of my favorites by Carrie Newcomer) can be heard by going to:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KNn4ZEGrl8

I've been looking for a safe place
Looking for a safe place half of my life
Some kind of Walden, some kind of Eden
Some kind of state of mind

A Safe Place......

There've been times when I've found that safe place
Pulled back the covers and climbed on in
Like steady breathing, like Christmas morning
Pulled the blankets to my neck and grinned

In a safe place....

There've been times when I almost stopped believing
Seemed the darkness was doggin' my heels
But every time a light in the center said
"Follow me safe home back here"

To a safe place

'Cause there's not too many places in this world
....Just a moment taken here and there
But every time I find you in the middle sayin'
"Welcome home honey, I'm glad you're here"

In a safe place

Looking for a safe place
Looking for a safe place half of my life
Some kind of Walden, some kind of Eden
Some kind of state of mind
