"Wuthering Heights" (#3 in "A Fairytale" series) One of  recent pleasures of living here has been meeting (via my longtime friend Suman's Indian cooking classes that she 's holding here each Saturday) April Brown.  Despite my having not known that she even existed (we both live in large houses set far back in the trees on opposing sides of the road...... and had never laid eyes on each other until two weeks ago, when she came for a class), we've become "instant-like" friends.

She's a nano-technologist/engineer (insofar as this English-major can understand at all what her work is).  The only thing I know for sure is that she's very-very smart, scientifically-minded, funny (at least I think so)....and fan of "Under the Tuscan Sun", Tilda Swinton, Ellen Gilchrist's writings, aberrant psychology, and all sorts of other, somewhat esoteric things that are also fascinations of mine over the years.  To be honest?.......we went together to the neighborhood potluck gathering yesterday and then happily (weird, but true) spent two hours at my kitchen table....discussing, among other topics, my and her ex-husband's stalkers (both were quite senior-varsity level, the "real thing" sorts).

I doubt it will surprise her (given our conversation last night) that I got up this morning and started this small picture....and finished it 30 minutes ago.  It may be the most purely self-indulgent picture I've done in three years (and the espadrilles belong to Our Favorite, Arlesienne Expat, Heather Robinson...or at least they did at one time)

"Wuthering Heights"

Out on the wild and windy moors
We'd roll and fall in green.
You had a temper like my jealousy:
Too hot, too greedy.
How could you leave me,
When I needed to possess you?
I hated you. I loved you, too.

Bad dreams in the night.
You told me I was going to lose the fight,
And leave behind my wuthering, wuthering
Wuthering Heights?.....oh no....

Ooh, it gets dark! It gets lonely,
On the other side from you.
I pine a lot. I find the lot
Falls through without you.
I'm coming back, love.
Cruel Heathcliff, my one dream,
My only master.

Too long I roam in the night.
I'm coming back to his side, to put it right.
I'm coming home to wuthering, wuthering,
Wuthering Heights,

Let me have it.
Let me grab your soul away.
Let me have it.
Let me grab your soul away.
You know it's me.....

Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.
I've Come home. I'm so cold.......
