"People, Get Ready" (for Godfrey Herndon)

12"x14"

oil pencil, watercolor, & pastel

2014

This one (which won't be for sale, but will of course be a birthday gift) is for my extraordinarily fine, longtime friend, Godfrey Herndon. I should emphasize that he's the most beloved(by many, many folks) person I know......and for many very good reasons, to say the least.

I expect he'll understand full-well why I picked this song/title....and I bet he'll understand the picture.  Happy birthday, Godfrey......and those who want to send their congratulations on This Anniversary of Godfrey's Blessed Nativity can send them to: gherndon@nccu.edu

Much love to Our Man, Godfrey (who's had a terribly tough year, but is still hanging in there, as ever)......

Oddly enough, my favorite cover of this song is found at:

"People get ready, there's a train comin'
You don't need no baggage, you just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'
You don't need no ticket... you just thank the lord

People get ready, there's a train to Jordan
Picking up passengers coast to coast
Faith is the key, open the doors and board them
There's hope for all among those loved and lost.

There ain't no room for the hopeless sinner who would hurt all mankind
Just to save his own
Have pity on those whose chances grow thinner
For there ain't no hiding place against the kingdom's throne

People get ready.... there's a train comin'
You don't need no baggage, just get on board
All you need is faith to hear those diesels hummin'
You don't need no ticket, just thank the lord."
